Dodgeball concludes with two champions

February has drawn to a close, thus finding Intramurals bidding adieu to Dodgeball. Mandi Smith's Dodgeballerz took home the championship in the women's division with a decisive victory over Lauren Miller's Ball Busters. Tim Conner's team, the Step-Dad's, took home the championship on top of their undefeated season in Dodgeball. When asked why he chose that name, Conner informed us that "It's because we beat you and you hate us."

March Madness basketball has started and will continue throughout the month, with eight men's teams and four women's teams competing this year.

Intramurals raises money for Haiti

With Dodgeball registration this year, teams were asked to pitch in five dollars towards the campus-wide campaign to raise $10K for Haiti relief. Any additional dollar over that amount the team member donating money could earn an additional 100 points for the I-Cup. This incentive allowed several students who were high ranking in the standings to catch up a little on Chaz Elrod's secure hold on the number one spot. All total the initiative raised over $110 to go towards campus efforts. A huge thanks to Donald Rucker's team for bringing in the most money.

Games began on Tuesday night in Cooper and will run throughout the month of February, with the playoffs concluding the season.

Intramurals in on relief work

Kickball is still going on in Cooper, but in Bartlett the Intramurals staff is hard at work planning the spring semester's lineup of events. Dodgeball will be the first event to kick off the next semester. However, instead of canned food collection for this event, Intramurals has decided to do a monetary buy-in for the event. The money collected will not only get your team registered, but for every dollar your team donates we'll exponentially increase your points throughout the event. All of the money raised will go towards Haitian relief efforts through Partners in Health. The student body has set a goal of $10,000 to raise between now and May. So help support this great effort and be a part of something bigger than just Intramurals!

Three Point Shootout finds new life

The three-point shootout competition normally draws a select group of students with the talents to shoot, under pressure, and come up big. This year saw that expanded with a large group of men participating and a larger than normal ladies group. When all the shots were taken and points tallied, Alyse Ray and Eddie Rivera were left standing as champions. Alyse was on the championship powder puff team, while Eddie just came off a soccer championship two weeks ago. Both are consistent participants in Intramurals and took their skills to Randy Lamber Court on Wednesday night to compete against Moriah Gross and Jimbo Paul from Carson Newman. Each year the Intramurals champions from both schools compete at halftime of the rivalry game to see who can come out on top. It was a split decision again this year with Alyse bringing the championship back to Maryville, while Jimbo won by one basket to steal the title from Eddie. Intramurals now takes a break during finals and the holidays. We'll see you all in J-Term!
